SUCCESSFUL BURN

OPERATIONS AT MAHUNGA GOLF LINKS. NO NEED OF BRIGADE'S SERVICES. The glare of a fire beyond the Railway Station shortly after 8 o'clock last night was responsible for someone summoning the Masterton Fire Brigade and when the bell rang a large number of people proceeded to the scene of the fire. The alarm was a needless one, however, as burning off operations were being carried out on the Mahunga Golf Links, which are beyond the borough boundary. A working bee of about 20 members of the club was engaged in the task. There was no danger at any time of the fire getting out of control. The burn was a most successful one, a considerable amount of gorse and grass being consumed.
