IMPORT REGULATIONS
SOLICITOR-GENERAL’S DECISION. REFUSAL TO FACILITATE TEST ACTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. February 13. The Solicitor-General. Mr H. H. Cornish. K.C.. has advised the Bureau of Importers through its legal advisers that he will not grant consent to the issue of an originating summons to test the validity of the import control regulations. 1938. The reason given for the refusal was that it was a question of Government, policy and that the Solicitor-General was riot prepared to facilitate such an action. The bureau reports that the matter is still in the hands of its solicitors. Following the imposition of the regulations, the intention of the bureau to test their validity through the Court was announced. In a statement early this month, the secretary of the bureau, Mr R. M. Barker, said a case before the Court of Appeal to test the validity of the regulations would definitely be proceeded with. A petition to the Governor-General ; to suspend the operation of the im- / port control regulations .till their/ , validity could be tested through the Courts is being proceeded with, according to the bureaus.
