GREATHEAD CUP CONTEST. (“Times-Age” Special.) For the Greathead Cup, Hastwells met Kaiparoro at Kaiparoro, and a very enjoyable game resulted. Ladies' Doubles:—H. Madsen and A. Dick beat Mesdames Harvey and Wolland, 6-3; E. Dick and I. Madsen beat T. Isakson and R. Dick, 6-1; O. Halberg and E. Larsen beat D. Dick and V. Welch, 6-5. Men’s Doubles.—R. Dick and E. Sigvertsen beat A. Hansen and J. Searancke. 6-2: J. Royal and K. Ngatuere beat V. Bairn and J. Monaghan. 6-4; L. Dick and C. Seymour lost to J. McAnulty and D. Olivant, 4-6. Combined doubles.—H. Madsen and R. Dick beat A. Hansen and Mrs Harvey, 6-4; A. Dick and E. Sigvertsen beat V. Baird and Mrs Wolland, 6-1; E. Dick and J. Royal beat J. Monaghan and T. Isakson, 6-0; I. Madsen and K. Ngatuere beat Searancke and R. Dick, 6-3; O. Halberg and L. Dick beat J. McAnulty and D. Dick, 6-5; E. Larsen and C. Seymour lost to D. Olivant and V. Welch, 1-6.
Hastwells proved the winners by 19. sets and 131 games to Kaiparoro’s 5 sets and 72 games. At' close of the match, Mr Thorbey, president of the Hastwells club, thanked the Kaiparoro Club members for their hospitality, the luncheon and afternoon tea so generously provided by the members being thoroughly enjoyed by all. Mr J. Searancke suitably replied thanks on behalf of the Kaiparoro Club. Detailed results are as follows, Hastwells players being mentioned first:— , Ladies’ singles—Miss H. Alleged Intoxication.
William Robert Hart Udy, farmer, of Hukanui, was arrested in Pahiatua on Wednesday afternoon on a charge of having been intoxicated while in charge of a motor vehicle. He later appeared before Mr J. Hutton, J.P., and was remanded to appear at the Pahiatua Magistrates’ Court on February 16. He was admitted to bail, surety being fixed at £2O. Women’s Institute. A very happy time was spent by members of the Eketahuna Women’s Institute and friends when they met for their monthly meeting at Mrs Macky’s home. The meeting took the form of a garden party and the lawn lent itself admirably to this. Being surrounded by hedges and edged with flower beds it made a beautiful setting for the Folk Dancing with which the guests for the afternoon, the High School girls, under the direction of Miss C. M. Wilson and Mrs Sale Reed, entertained. Several competitions were held, and were won as follow: Mrs Olivant, paper hat; Miss Kathleen Golder (High School) paper hat; Miss Eileen Hooper (High School), treasure hunt; Mrs Wilson, clock golf; Mrs McAlister, wandering parcel; posy, Mrs Baucke first, Mrs Fraser, equal 2nd, Mrs Oliver equal 3rd. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Macky, Mrs Albrechtsen, Misses Mitchell and Hooper. Mrs Carter thanked the teachers and girls for coming along and also extended thanks to Mrs Macky for the happy time all had been able to spend in her garden. Tennis Club Draw. The following is the draw for the first round of the handicap matches. These games must be played by February 19: — Ladies’ Singles—Miss B. Boyes v Miss J. Wilson, Miss N. O’Regan v Mrs T. O'Regan. EKETAHUNA SALE. GOOD DEMAND FOR LAMBS. At the Eketahuna sale yesterday good lambs suitable for rape showed an improvement in values, while store lambs remained firm on the previous week's value. Bidding was keen throughout the sale.
