AIRMAN’S FEAT
HENSHAW’S CAPE FLIGHT
RECORD BEATEN BOTH WAYS. LANDING AT GRAVESEND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, February 9. Alex Henshaw, who left Oran at 7.48 a.m. landed at Gravesend at 1.51 p.m. The return flight occupied 391 hours, beating the record by 17 hours, 27 minutes.
The instrument board of Henshaw’s plane and liis coat were drenched with blood. Henshaw stated that it had been most bumpy during the last stage and his nose had been bleeding since 7.15 a.m. Despite exhaustion, Henshaw made a perfect landing. When lifted out of the machine, he was unable to stand and was carried into the Customs building, but speedily recovered. Henshaw completed the double flight in four days, ten hours, beating FlyingOfficer Clouston’s record.
