PLUNKET SOCIETY

MEETING OF MASTERTON BRANCH. HOUSE TO HOUSE CANVASS TO BE MADE. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Branch of' the Plunket Society was held yesterday afternoon, the president, Mrs J. Caselberg being in the chair. There were also present: Mesdames S. L. P. Free, N. Nathan, D. Donald,. J. C. Broad, A. H. Falloon, T. Jordan, H. H. Daniell, M. Carmine, 3. G. Norman, W. A. Michael, A. S. Stewart, Sortain Smith, J. D. O’Connor. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. C. Drummond, N. Irwin, J. M. Coradine, T. W. Wardell, J. James and T. F. Watson. It was resolved to send a letter of congratulation to Miss Fitzgibbon, nursing adviser to the council upon being included in the New Year honours.

Accounts amounting to £43 Os lOd were passed. The branch’s financial position was fully discussed and it was considered absolutely necessary to make a special appeal to the public to enable the society’s work to be carried on. It was therefore resolved that a house to house canvass be undertaken to raise funds instead of the usual shop day. By this means the committee hopes to appeal to a wider public and raise a substantial sum.

It was arranged that this canvass should take place at the end of February.

Upon the receipt of a circular regarding the Keep Fit Campaign it was unanimously agreed to support the scheme and give every assistance. It was agreed that the branch should open a rest room on the showgrounds this year as usual but that a charge of Is be made to defray expenses. It was decided to send a special letter of thanks and appreciation to the Principal of St. Matthew’s School (Mrs Max Cleghorn) for the generous gift of 65 garments made by the girls. Thanks were also accorded to Mrs Burns, Mrs Morris, Mrs Cameron and Mrs Myer Caselberg for the donation of infants’ clothing.
