(“Times-Ace” Special.)

The Rev R. S. Keenan left on Saturday to take up duties as chaplain to the Military Camp at Waiouru. Misses Joyce Hatton, Betty Rowles. Patricia O’Neal and Joan McKenzie, and Mr Percy Henderson left yesterday afternoon for the Training College.

Premature Explosion. Mr W. Sturdee, who is the explosives expert with the gang clearing a track across the Rimutaka Hill for power transmission lines from Johnsonville to Masterton, had a narrow escape from a serious accident when a gelignite charge that he was placing prematurely exploded. Mr Sturdee was thrown by the force of the explosion about 30 feet down a gully and received bruises. After having received medical attention from Dr Sharp, he was able to resume work later in the day.
