MT. HOLDSWORTH

NEW HUT TO BE ERECTED. FOR SKI-ING PARTIES. Following on a mild boom in skiing on Mt Holdsworth last winter, the Hutt Valley Tramping Club decided to erect a hut on the snow line, and made a substantial start at the weekend. A large party, armed with a variety of implements and carrying a quantity of timber, arrived at the site and lost no time in getting to work. Trees were felled in the bush lower down, sawn into piles and over 30 of these carried up and many fixed in position.

A party from the Wairarapa Tramping Club joined in the work. Splendid weather favoured the party the whole time.

The hut will be 24 x 15 and commands a fine view of the Valley and will be visible from the whole northern end of the Wairarapa. It is not intended to put any fireplace or chimney in the hut, whicn will be almost entirely for the use of ski-ing parties. The whole of the material is to be carried up from the end of the road.
