(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. Steps for the formation of a New Zealand Consumers’ League ,were taken at a meeting last evening, being the sequel to a proposal advanced by the Farmers’ Union, which urged that such a body would be a valuable method of focussing the point of view of those concerned at rising costs and their consequent injury to trade. Colonel S. J. Closey advanced the organisation’s plans and objects, defined as guarding and advancing the rights and welfare of the consumer in particular, with regard to goods and services offered for sale. Mr A. E. Mansford was elected president. Colonel Closey stated that 31 branches were- ready to be formed.
