WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION COMPETITIONS

B AND C GRADE COMPETITIONS.

SEVERAL MATCHES FORFEITED

The Wairarapa Tennis Association’s B and C grade competitions were continued on Saturday in fine weather. Only one B grade and two C grade matches were played, the remainder having been forfeited.

B GRADE. A B grade match played at Lansdowne resulted in an easy win for Carterton by 19 matches, 162 games to Lansdowne’s 5 matches, 102 games. Detailed results of the singles are, Carterton players mentioned first in every case: —

Men’s singles: J. Bond beat R. L. Faulknor, 9/2; A. Krahagen beat H. Adcock, 9'7; R. Brown beat K. Morris. 9/1; A. Heavey beat S. Faulknor, 9/6; J. Steel lost to K. Harrington, 6/9: O'Leary beat A. Allsop, 9/2; total, Carterton 5 matches, 51 games; Lansdowne, 1 match, 27 games.

Ladies’ singles: Miss Dwnae lost to Miss B. Percy, 5/8; Miss Crawley beat Miss P. Welch, 8/4; Miss Harrington beat Miss D. Matthews, 8/4; Miss Bedford beat Miss L. Shaw, 8/4; Miss Neich lost to Miss N. Welch, 4/8; Miss Beaven beat Miss J. Fawcett, 8/1; total, Carterton 4 matches, 41 games; Lansdowne 2 matches, 29 games. Other section results were: —Men’s doubles, Carterton 2 matches, 25 games; Lansdowne 1 match, 14 games. Ladies' doubles. Carterton 2 matches, 21 games; Lansdowne 1 match, 11 games. Combined doubles, Carterton 6 matches, 24 games; Lansdowne no matches, 21 games.

The following matches were forfeited: Masterton to Kuripuni; Greytown to Memorial; Carrington Park to Mount Bruce.

The Masterton B grade team has been withdrawn from the competition,

C GRADE.

Carrington Park defeated Kopuaranga in a contest played at Kopuaranga on Saturday by sixteen matches, 116 games to eight matches, 109 games. The section results were:—Men’s singles, Carrington Park 2* matches, 29 games; Kopuaranga 4 matches, 34 games. Men’s doubles, Carrington Park 1 match, 15 games; Kopuaranga 2 matches, 20 games. Ladies’ singles, Carrington Park 6 matches, 36 games; Kopuaranga no matches, 15 games. Ladies’ doubles, Carrington Park 3 matches, 18 games; Kopuaranga no matches, 10 games. Combined doubles, Carrington Park 4 matches, 38 games; Kopuaranga 2 matches, 30 games. Martinborough defeated Rangitumau by 17 matches to 7 in a contest played at Martinborough.

The following matches were forfeited: Carterton to Kuripuni; Greytown to Masterton Park.

The Carterton C-grade -team has been withdrawn from the competition.

FRIENDLY MATCH.

MEMORIAL BEAT KURIPUNI.

Warm and sultry conditions prevailed on Saturday when a team from Memorial Lawn Tennis Club played a friendly match against Kuripuni at the Kuripuni courts, Memorial winning by 13 matches to 7. Afternoon tea was served by the Kuripuni committee, and was greatly appreciated. The following were the results (Memorial players being mentioned first in every instance): —

Men’s singles: G. Colquhoun beat E. Steer, 8/2; G. Challis beat A. Jaspers, 8/1; C. J. Carle beat J. Price, 8/2; D. Costello beat D. Pollock, 8/2; Delahunty beat H. Tinsley, 8/1; G. Jones lost to D. Clarke, 3/8.

Ladies’ singles: Miss P. Andrews lost to Miss I. Volheim, 6/7; Miss J. Johnstone lost to Miss N. Jones, 6/7; Miss N. Syron lost to Mrs Jaspers, 1/7; Mrs Poole beat Miss Rena Stains, 7/2; Mrs Wearne lost to Mrs Wright, 1/7. Other sections resulted: Men’s doubles, Memorial 2 matches, 23 games; Kuripuni 1 match. 8 games. Ladies' doubles, Memorial 2 matches, 16 games; Kuripuni 1 match, 8 games. Combined doubles, Memorial 5 matches, 41 games; Kuripuni 1 set, 19 games.
