The number of more important measures being dealt with by Parliament was cited as the principal cause for no further action being taken toward modifying the Mountain Guides Act by the Minister for Lands (the Hon F. Langstone). Efforts were made last year by the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand, and by certain other organisations, to have the lot of professional mountain guides improved bv amending the Mountain Guides Act of 1931. The Minister considered that if the proposed amendments, which provide for the licensing of guides in three grades, became iaw, they would apply rather to the better-known areas among the majoralps.
