RADIO TRANSMITTERS

MASTERTON BRANCH. MEETING OF MEMBERS.' An encouraging number of members were present last evening at the Club Room when Mr Dahlberg presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters, xnis meeting marked the sixth gathering held since the club was established. A cordial welcome was extended to a new member. Intending members are advised to make application to the president while the opportunity offers.

Mrs G. H. Grantham was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her generous action in donating a cake for the branch picnic which was held at Wardell's Bridge on January 22, several of the Martinborough N.Z.A.R.T. Club members being also present. Following on an inspection of the amateurs' "shacks” in Masterton, the gathering went on to Wardells Bridge, where in perfect weather a most successful outing was held, those present thoroughly enjoying themselves. An outing such as this, combined with the active interest shown by members, augurs well for the future of the club.

The slow morse sessions, transmitted from ZL-2OD are greatly appreciated by the members and are proving of great interest. These sessions, which are to be continued from the same station every Saturday from 6.45 p.m. to 7.15 p.m., are of considerable benefit to the more advanced members. This interesting and in times of emergency —as was the case in the Chilean earthquake tragedy—dependable means of communication deserves every encouragement. In the event of war it is the amateur who would be depended upon when National stations possibly may be destroyed.
