FIGHTING PLANES

FRANCE PLACING BIG ORDER IN UNITED STATES MEMBER OF VISITING MISSION , INJURED. AMERICAN PILOT KILLED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK, January 26. The Washington correspondent of the “New York Daily News” confirms reports that France is negotiating the largest order of fighting planes ever placed here by a foreign Power, estimated at 400 or 600 planes. It is understood that the American Government is specially facilitating the order, which is being arranged by the French air mission.

Incidentally one member of the mission was seriously injured when an ultra-modern light Douglas bomber, in which he was flying on an experimental flight, crashed at Los Angeles, killing the American pilot.
