LITERARY INSTITUTE. NEW BOOK LENDING SYSTEM. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Featherston Literary Institute held a meeting yesterday afternoon. Mr.R. W. Matthews was in the chair, and there were also present Mesdames N. C. C. Shepherd. J. G. McKenzie, A. Clark,. Misses Card, J. Donald. Messrs A. Clark, C. Kenward, M. B. Tait and the Rev R. S. Keenan. It was decided to re-open the lending library on February 1. It was decided that the fine for overdue books should be 3d per week or part of a week, instead of the present system of Id per day. Borough residents are to be allowed one book at a time and country members up to 4 books. An extra week is permitted country members, making it a 3 weeks loan in place of 2 weeks. The librarian’s report was read, and satisfaction was expressed by the committee at the progress of the work. Personal. Mr W. C. Pottihger has been appointed head teacher at the Kahutara School. The Rev R. S. Keenan and Mrs Keenan have returned from a holiday spent in Timaru. Bowling Tournament. In the Dominion tournament at Auckland the Featherston rink, Fuge, James, O’Neale, Rolls (s), were eliminated after reaching the sixth round in post section play, when they were defeated by Deare (Carlton) by a margin of one point—22 to 21.
