MARTINBOROUGH
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Martinborough Borough Council there were present: Councillors P. R. Plummer (in the chair), T. A. Hamilton (acting-treasurer), C. R. Holmes, G. P. Cotter and W. H. Corfield. Leave of absence was granted to the Mayor and Councillors Gundrie, Hardie, Mulvaney and Green. A complaint was received from the sanitary contractor stating that the sanitary cart had been removed by some persons on New Year’s Eve and had been so damaged as to render it unfit for use. It was decided to place the matter in the hands of the police. The Ranger reported having dealt with 11 head of stock and registered four dogs during the month. A complaint concerning lambs straying in the streets was referred to the ranger.
It was decided to impose a penalty of 10 per cent, on rates unpaid on February 14.
Mrs S. Chapman’s name was added to the Physical Welfare Committee.
A letter Was received from the Main Highways Board in regard to corners ar.d intersections on main highways. Reference was made by councillors to the corner at the Racecourse Road and at Oxford Street, and it was decided to consider these matters at a later meeting. The Town Clerk reported that the rates struck amounted to £3137 14s 6d. Of these, £1931 19s 9d had been collected, and that the sum of £1205 14s tid was outstanding.
