DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. SERVICE COMPETITION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The following were the scores in the Featherston Defence Rifle Club’s service competition:— C. J. Nix 216 R. Donald 208 J. Johnson ; 205 A. Cook 175 W. Nix 170 W. Johnson 159 W. S. Benton 131 N. Nix 120 L. G. Benton 118 R. Fenwick 73 K. McKenzie 40 Danger of Fire. The danger of fire is causing property owners anxiety. There has been an abundant growth of grass which is now dry after hot winds. A cigarette or a match thrown carelessly in the grass may cause serious damage. Crop of Oats Damaged.' A fine crop of oats belonging to the Allen Donald Estate which was recently cut and stooked, has suffered severe damage from the gales experienced lately. Hardly a stook has been left standing, the sheaves being scattered in all directions. BAG SNATCHING. Bag snatching and pocket picking are apparently rife in Wellington just now. A Featherston girl visitor to the city had her bag taken by a thief while a cousin had a similar experience a few days later. Girl Guides Camp.
The Girl Guides, who had been in camp in Masterton, returned home today.
