Slowly the hands of the clock crept around to the hour, and at the first chime the slow procession commenced to wend its way to the scaffold. With a last look at his watch to see that the time had really arrived, the man in authority gave the signal, and John Brown and his fellow- bricklayers recommenced work after the dinner hour.
