PRE-WEDDING PARTY.
(“Times-A>ie” Special.)
The Rongokokako Hall was filled when a kitchen tea was tendered to Miss M. Sigvertsen whose marriage with Mr Reg Duncan will take place on Wednesday next. Visitors were present from Nireaha, Kaiparoro, Hastwells, Mauriceville and Eketahuna. Dancing, for which excellent music was supplied by Messrs Norman Cooper, Alan Lprsen, J. B. Drysdale and Ivan Larsen was ably controlled by Mr Murray Morriss. The prizes for novelty dances were won as follows: Lucky Spot, Miss D. Nagel and Mr H. Ashworth; Monte Carlo waltzes, Miss Pedlow and G. Ruakere and Miss A. Cooper and Mr Eddie Smith. •
After supper Mr A. Hughan asked Miss Sigvertsen to accept the many useful gifts which had been brought, and in doing so made eulogistic reference to the personal qualities of Miss Sigvertsen and Mr Dunean.
Mrs W. O'Neill, on behalf of the Women's Institute, presented Miss Sigvertsen with a silver fruit knife, adding that the best wishes of the Institute went with it. Mr R. Farrow, on behalf of the Nireaha Hockey Club, added his tribute. He asked her acceptance of a case of silver forks.
Mr F. Goggin then presented Miss Sigvertsen with a case of silver spoons from the Tennis Club.
Mr Duncan briefly replied on behalf of Miss Sigvertsen.
Proposed Transfer of Land.
At the monthly meeting of the Aki--lio County Council a petition from the estate of the late C. Liverton asking for the inclusion of a small area of approximately 250 acres in the Akitio County instead of the Castlepoint County was presented. It was decided to write to Castlepoint County and point out that the petition had been received and asking them for their opinion on the matter. Personal. Mr McGregor, faultman of the Tararua Power Board, and formerly of Eketahuna, who will be stationed at Pongaroa, accompanied by his wife, has arrived in Pongaroa to commence his duties. A Strong Gale. Sunday was a very boisterous day. A strong northerly wind blew all day and throughout the night, accompanied by heavy rain. As far as can be ascertained there has been no damage other than the blowing down of a few trees. Senior Cricket. In a senior championship cricket match at Eketahuna on Saturday Pahiatua defeated the local team on the first innings by 25 runs. Pahiatua batted first and compiled 95 runs (McKay 13. Pagett 11; P. Payne look 5 wickets. J. Payne 3 and F. Robinson 2). Eketahuna replied with 70 (F. Robinson 15, Mountjoy 12, P. Payne 10; R. Montgomery 5 for 26. McKay 5 for 31). Pahiatua played out time putting up 64 runs for the loss of 8 wickets (McKay, not out 28. Montgomery 15, Meade 10; J. Payne 3 for 26. Walton 2 for 9. P. Payne 1 for 2. F. Robinson 1 for 10).,
On Saturday next Eketahuna will meet the Pahiatua Fire Brigade at Eketahuna.
