Mr R. W. Carpenter, of Waipukurau, accompanied by his son, is on a visit to Masterton.

Dr Benzoin Shein, special envoy of the World Zionist Organisation and the Jewish Agency for Palestine, is raw in Auckland.

Captain L. C. P. Tudway, formerly captain of H.M.S. Leith, whose term of service with the New Zealand Squadron has concluded, will sail in the Rangitane, which is due to leave Wellington for England this afternoon. Captain and Mrs Norman Kearse, who have been in command of the Pahiatua corps of the Salvation Army, have received notice of their transfer to Putaruru. Their place will be taken by Captain and Mrs Allott, of Leeston.

The death occurred at the Masterton Hospital last evening of Mr James Lyddy. The late Mr Lyddy, who was a native of Australia, was a single man aged 25 years. For the past ten years he had been employed by various bakery firms in Masterton. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving St Patrick’s Church at 9 a.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. The Hon. Charles Molesworth, Jersey, and his sister, the Hon Mrs G. Dyson-Laurie, arrived at Auckland from England by the Rimutaka. The Hon Charles Molesworth. who is heir presumptive to the ninth Viscount Molesworth, took up an area of land on the Nuhaka River, Hawke’s Bay, with his brother, the Hon. Ernest Molesworth. Auckland, in 1894, and worked it till 1900.

The funeral of the late Mrs M. H. McKenzie took place yesterday at the Masterton Cemetery. A service was I conducted at the residence of Mrs N. j Chesterman, Essex Street, and at the graveside by the Rev J. M. Simpson. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends and many beautiful floral tributes were received, including one from the Kopuaranga Women's Institute. The pall-bearers were Messrs P. Cooper, C. Cooper. R. McKenzie, A. McKenzie and R. Milne. Eulogistic reference was made at a meeting of the executive of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association to the valuable assistance rendered by Mr D. O. | L. Howden in his official capacity as| gates treasurer on show days. Mr' Howden had filled that position foi eleven years and the manner in which he carried out his onerous duties had won him unstinted admiration from members of the executive. The sentiments-,expressed by the president and secretary in reference tc Mr Howden were warmly endorsed byj the meeting, and Mr Howden was I unanimously elected a life member.
