FEATHERSTON
SWEDE AND RAPE CROPS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Notwithstanding the rather unseasonable weathei; which is being experienced, there are some excellent swede and rape crops in the South Wairarapa. This is probably accounted for by reason of the high winds which have checked the ravages of the white butterfly and diamond moth. Personal Items. Canon Kayll, Waihi, is visiting his daughter, Mrs A. H. Ashdown, “To Moana.” Mr W. Kayll, who was on a visit to his sister, Mrs Ashdown, has returned home to the West Coast, South Island. The members of the Badminton Club presented Mr Kibblewhite with an adjustable reading lamp yesterday afternoon. Mr Kibblewhite will leave for Temuka on Monday. Damage Done by Wind. Although Featherston is well-known for its winds, old residents state that they can never remember anything to quite equal what has been experienced during the last few weeks. The gales probably reached their highest early yestrday morning, when fences were blown down and in one case a window was shattered. Much-Travelled Bottle. When the Monowai was returning from Sydney with the ex-service men on board, Mr Les Lambess, of Tauherenikau, and a friend, threw overboard a bottle containing a note with their names and addresses and the distance from New Zealand (about 400 miles). A few days ago Mr Lambess received a letter containing the note, from the finder, Mr. Allen, of Muriwai Beach, North Auckland. Mr. Allen stated that the bottle containing the note had been picked up on the beach.
