FIRE ON RIMETAKA
OUTBREAK IN NO. 3 HOLD ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND DELAYED. AMERICAN STEAMER STANDING BY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the arrival at Auckland of the liner Rimutaka from London will be delayed owing to a fire in No 3 hold. The American steamer Yomachichi is ' standing by until the fire is under complete control. UNDER CONTROL LINER STEAMING TOWARDS YOMACHICHI. THREE HUNDRED PASSENGERS ON BOARD. (Received This Day, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, January 9. The Rimutaka, en route to Auckland from Panama, with 300 passengers and a full cargo, has wirelessed from the South Pacific that a fire has broken out in the hold under the shelter deck, but that it is under control and the vessel is steaming towards the United States steamer Yomachichi, which is 300 miles away.
A London message states that the Rimutaka’s position at noon yesterday was 32?1G south, 164.32 west —i,e„ in the northern Tasman Sea, about 500 miles from New Zealand.
