The Rimutaka, en route to Auckland from Panama, with 300 passengers and a full cargo, has wirelessed from the South Pacific that a fire has broken out in the hold under the shelter deck, but that it is under control and the vessel is steaming towards the United States steamer Yomachichi, which is 300 miles away.

A London message states that the Rimutaka’s position at noon yesterday was 32?1G south, 164.32 west —i,e„ in the northern Tasman Sea, about 500 miles from New Zealand.
