THE TURKISH BATH
EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL. Have you ever had a Turkish Bath? This is extremely beneficial as the perspiration which is created cleanses the pores thoroughly of all impurities, and the many poisonous secretions which are under the skin are forced out of the body. After this, the skin feels like new. Most* of us, however, are not able to indulge in this treatment, but there is not the slightest reason why the body cannot be treated at home. It is necessary to devote a couple of hours one night per week to the process, following the directions given below: — Just before retiring, or at two ■ hours after dinner, prepare a really hot bath with at least enough water to thoroughly cover the body when you -lie in it. Into this water throw two handsful of Epsom Salts. Allow the crystals to dissolve, and 'then lie in the bath until you can feel the perspiration beginning to break out on the face, then quickly get f out, dry thoroughly and go to bed. After getting into bed, make yourself as warm as possible. Remove the sheets and lie between the blankets. Pile the bedclothes on, and do all you can to make yourself perspire freely. Lie in bed until you feel- the perspiration running down your legs—usually half an hour is sufficient for this—and then go back to the bathroom and get under the cold shower, losing no time in the process, and then give the body a friction treatment.
Lightly dab the body with a little eau-de-Cologne, and then massage vigorously with the palms of the hands until the whole of the body tingles. Every inch of the skin should be treated, special care being given to the shoulders and the back, which are often neglected. After the friction you will feel a tingling, glowing sensation, and to complete the treatment place a little talcum powdei - in the palms of the hands and again massage the body. The skin will now feel like velvet and the limbs will be supple.
If you are a bathing girl, the best time to take this beauty treatment is on a night previous to a day spent on the beach, and you will then have no cause to be ashamed of the condition of your skin. Once you have tried one of these skin cleansing treatments, you will be a regular devotee of this weekly beauty bath. It is excellent for cleansing the skin, is a good means of reducing, and it also gives relief to sufferers from rheumatism.
Although many women spend much time in caring for the beauty of the face and the hair, it is not at all uncommon to find that the beauty of the body is entirely neglected. It is a great pity to mar the effect of a pretty face and beautiful complexion with a faulty and blemished skin on other parts of the body. It should be remembered that nowadays there are occasions on the beach and in the ballroom when backless and low-cut costumes allow a large area of skin to be exposed to view. There are some parts of the body which often suffer from a sluggish circulation, and if the back, arms, elbows and legs have a goose-fleshy appearance, it is a sign that the skin is in need of vigorous treatment.
A good skin friction can be given easily by oiling the body with olive or almond oil, and then massaging briskly with pumice stone. This may sound a trifle harsh, but the skin will not object to this treatment, but will respond quickly and satisfactorily. If you suffer from quite a little nest of pimples and blackheads between the shoulder blades, have the chemist make a sulphur ointment, or else mix one teaspoonful of sulphur with a jar of cold cream, and massage it into the affected area every night. There is nothing like this sulphur treatment for remedying this kind of trouble. Our grandmothers were great believers in the treacle and sulphur mixture, but you will find that external applications are just as effective as internal doses.
