IMPORT CONTROL

ATTEMPT TO PENETRATE OFFICIAL SECRECY

CONCERTED ACTION TAKEN IN CANTERBURY.

PROPOSED INFORMATION POOL.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

A concerted effort is to be made by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and importing firms to break through the shroud of official secrecy that has been placed around the regulations governing the restriction of imports. One of the major difficulties confronting importers is the complete silence that meets their applications for information from the Department. It is now proposed that a pool should be formed of all details concerning licences which have been obtained. For this purpose the Chamber of Commerce proposes to-convene a meeting of importers on Monday. A suggestion will be made that a bureau should be established for the collection of information by importers and that this information should be tabulated and made available for the use of all firms operating in the import business. It is also likely that a suggestion will be put forward at the meeting that concerted action should be taken to show the Government reasons why the present regulations should be amended.
