MASTERTON POST OFFICE FIGURES.
INCREASED BUSINESS,
. Increased business in the telegraph, tolls and mail departments was recorded by the Masterton Post Office during the Christmas rush period. The figures were as follow, the corresponding ones for 1937 being given in parentheses: Telegraph traffic: December 23, forwarded 1290 (912),; received. 1150 (1097). December 24, forwarded 1034 (1535); received, 2293 (2100). Totals for two days, forwarded, 2324 (2447); received, 3443 (3197). From December 19 to December 24 the total messages forwarded were 3478 (3351) and the total received, 4696 (4302).
The outward toll traffic figures were: December 23, 631 (751); December 24. 475 *616); totals for two days, 1106 (1367). K From December 19 to December 24 the total outward tolls were 3971 as compared with 3585 for the same period of 1937. In the mail room the figures for the week ending December 24, 1938 were as follow, .those for the same period of 1937 being given in parentheses: —Despatched, bags 889 (834); parcel receptacles, 81 (92); received, bags, 862 (824); parcel receptacles, bags, 862 (824); parcel receptacles, 192 (161).
