ALLEGED ASSAULT

MASTERTON YOUTH BEFORE COURT. SEQUEL TO PARK EPISODE. Arising out of an episode near the Masterton Hospital yesterday morning when a 16 years-old girl. Eileen Patricia Devery, was struck over the head and face, the alleged assailant. George Curtis, aged 21 years, a farm hand residing in Cole Street, was charged in lhe Magistrate's Court this morning with assaulting the girl with intent to commit a crime.

Messrs A. D. Low and A. Rippon. J.sP.. were on the bench and DetectiveSergeant W. Kane handled the case for the police. The arrest was the result of smart work by the Detective-Sergeant. Considerable public interest was shown in the case.

On the application of the police a remand was granted until January 12. The accused youth said he had nothing to say.
