The Hon P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour, returned to Wellington by air on Sunday from Auckland. A Warsaw cablegram reports the death, at the age of 74, of Roman Dmowski, leader and founder of the Polish Nationalist movement. i
Dr and Mrs J. Whitton, Lower Hutt, arrived at Wellington by the Napier Star on Saturday after a motoring holiday in England and Ireland, extending over eight months. Mrs P. S. Carroll (New Plymouth), after staying with her sisters, the Misses Anderson, of Eketahuna, left for Wellington to be the guest of her sister, Mrs Fallaver, St Francis Flats. The King has approved the appointment of Sir Percy Loraine, British Ambassador at Angora, to be Ambassador at Rome, in succession to Lord Perth, who retires in April, a British Official Wireless message reports.
Mr F. H. Clift, formerly of the Pahiatua District High School, and for the past ten years first assistant at the Levin District High School, has. with Mrs Clift and family, removed to Masterton, where he has received an appointment on the staff of the Central School.
The funeral of the late Mr H. T. Hume took place at Masterton on Saturday, the Rev J. Davie conducting a service at the residence and also at the cemetery. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. Garrett, W. D. Fisher, T. Watson. D. Clark, M. Finlayson and B. Burns. The interment was a private one.
