NEXT MONDAY’S ATTRACTION. Given fine weather, the Wairarapa Caledonian Society’s sports gathering at the Masterton Park Oval on Monday promises to be a most enjoyable .one. There will be a wide range of events to entertain all patrons, including piping, dancing, athletics, cycling and field contests, besides an ambulance event for the Hessey Shield. Good entries have been received for the various classes, so that competition should be keen.

Marches, strathspeys and reels and the North Island slow march championship figure among the piping events, while the dances for juveniles and adults, include the Highland Fling, Sean Triubhais, Reel o’ Tulloch. Irish Jig, Sword, Sailor’s Hornpipe and the North Island champion Highland Fling. The athletic contests embrace ' running events from 100 yards to one mile, a 75 yards ladies’ race, throwing the javelin, putting the shot, throwing the discus, long jump, hop, step and jump, chain, stepping and cycling contests from half-mile to five miles.

There are 16 competitors in the cycling events including well-known. Wellington and Palmerston North riders.

The meeting is timed to commence at 12.30 p.m.. In the event of wet weather the dancing and piping events will be held in the Opera House.
