LOYAL SERVICE
MR J. W. de CASTRO FAREWELLED. I THIRTY-SEVEN YEARS WITH LEVIN & CO LTD. The staff of the Masterton branch of Messrs Levin and Co Ltd, met last Thursday evening to say au revoir to I Mr J. W. de Castro. Mr de Castro has retired from the company’s service. The manager, Mr K. D. Duncan, in a very happy speech, briefly outlined the yeoman service performed by Mr de Castro during the thirty-seven year’s he had been in the company’s employment. Outlining the various forms of travel that had been necessary to maintain contact with the firm’s clients during Mr de Castro’s term of office, Mr Duncan mentioned the days of horse riding, the buggy, the motorcycle and now the motor-car. Mr Duncan said that there was no doubt that the loyal service performed by Mr de Castro was a wonderful example to all present and more particularly to the younger men of the staff. The company were very sorry indeed to lose the services of such a valued officer, whose record was such a fine one. There was no doubt that Mr de Castro was justly entitled to a rest and Mr Duncan expressed the hope that the guest of the evening would enjoy many years of health and happiness. After making a presentation on behalf of the staff to Mr de Castro Mr Duncan took the opportunity of sayng how pleased he was to welcome Mr I. Clarke as Mr de Castro’s successor. Mr Clarke has been on the local staff of Messrs Levin and Co for the past seven years.
Mr de Castro suitably responded and the gathering concluded with musical honours to both Mr and Mrs de Castro.
