A GIFT EVENING

BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED. A large number of settlers and children assembled at the Mt Bruce Hall on Monday night, the occasion being a Christmas Tree for the children. Proceedings were opened with a short concert by the children of the Miki Miki School in which they did great credit to their teacher, Miss L. Wingate. After the concert Father Christmas appeared, much to the delight of the and proceeded to hand from the gaily decorated tree presents to all .children present. A pleasing part of the programme was the making of a present by the children to their teacher. After the children’s part of the programme had been disposed of the gathering, which swelled by late arrivals, became one of the largest seen in the hall, taking the form of a gift evening tended to Miss Joyce Wyeth of Hawkhurst, to mark her approaching marriage. The large number of presents received testified to the popularity of Miss Wyeth. Miss Wyeth was presented by the members of the Mt Bruce Tennis Club with a handsome fireside chair. The president, in making the presentation, mentioned the splendid part the Wyeth family had played in the welfare of the club, and especially Mr T. Wyeth, Miss Wyeth’s father. It was indeed pleasing to see a member of that family being honoured by the club members. Miss Wyeth had represented her club in the A team in competition matches. Mr Lochore suitably responded on behalf of Miss Wyeth, after which dancing continued till a late hour when the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a most enjoyable gathering. Miss Wyeth was also the guest of Miss M. Rollo at a gift afternoon at which she received many useful gifts, accompanied by good wishes for her future.
