GREYTOWN
SITTING OF MAGISTRATE’S COURT. SUPPLYING LIQUOR TO NATIVES. (“Times-Age” Special.) A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held in Greytown this morning before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. Charles Rewi appeared on a charge of aiding and assisting in the unlawful supply of liquor to natives and on a second charge of supplying liquor to native women.
Mr W. Tully, who appeared for defendant, entered a plea of guilty to both charges. He said defendant did not realise he was breaking the law. Those concerned were having a party. Constable' Gregor said the habit was growing amongst the natives.
Defendant was fined £3 and costs 12s on the first charge and £5 and costs 10s on the second charge.
. William Henry Woodhead was fined ss, with costs 10s, for riding a bicycle at night without a light. For driving a motor vehicle in the main street, Greytown, at over 30 miles per hour, Woolf Fisher was fined £3 with costs 10s.
T. Tamohama, for riding a motor cycle without proper lights was fined 30s, with costs 10s.
On a charge of riding a bicycle at night without a light Richard Haley was fined 10s and costs 10s. On a' similar charge Harry Broughton was fined 10s and costs. For having no rear red reflector Broughton was fined 10s and costs.
Robert Gray, for driving a motor vehicle in the main street, Greytown, at over 30 miles per hour, was fined 10s and costs 10s.
On a charge of using a trailei- with old number plates, Eric Smith was fined £l, with costs 10s. James G. Herron, for carrying on a goods service without a proper licence, was fined £2, with costs 10s. On a similar charge, Percy Joseph Pope was fined £l, with costs 10s.
School Party. The Odd Fellows’ Hall was packed for the District High School secondary department’s annual party which took place on Tuesday evening. The first part of the evening was devoted to dancing and competitions. The competition winners were Mi* A. Webster and Miss Joan Skeet. The second half of the programme was given by the pupils.-A playette in costume was well staged under the supervision of Miss Kedell. Miss Daphne Bouzaid gave a violin solo, and Miss Kathleen Leigh a striking impression of a Russian dance. Master Claud Field scored three encores for his mouth organ solos. Miss Joan Ingley was recalled for her tap dancing in costume, and Miss Joan Feast gave a splendid rendering of “Home Town” and as an encore gave “When My Dream Boat Comes Home.” On behalf of the Committee and parents Mr H. G. Carter expressed thanks to the pupils for the splendid evening provided. On behalf of the pupils he presented Miss N. Bouzaid with a gift for her assistance which she has given for many years. The music fbr the function was supplied by Miss N. Bouzaid and Mrs H. G. Carter (piano) and Master Alan Carter (piano accordion). Bowling Notes. The Dennes Medal changed hands again when Connolly defeated Wallace after a hard game. Brunton tried his skill against Connolly but after a close game was beaten by one point on the 21st head. In the handicap singles Higgison beat Day. Carter won, by default from Kenning. Parents’ Day at School. The Parents’ Day for the Greytown School will be held on Thursday commencing at 1.30 p.m. This year the exhibits will be on display in each class room. The presentation of certificates will take place at 2.30 p.m.
