WRECKED AT DARWIN

EMPIRE FLYING-BOAT SWEPT ASHORE BY FURIOUS GALE. CHRISTMAS MAILS SAVED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received This Day. 11.25 a.m.) DARWIN, This Day. The Empire flying-boat Coorong, which arrived this evening from Koepang with three tons of Christmas mail was swept ashore and wrecked by an eighty mile an hour gale which swept across Darwin Harbour late last night. Mechanics and townspeople worked heroically as the Coorong pounded on the rocks, and were able to save every bag of mail, but it is doubtful whether the flying-boat, which is valued at £60,000, can be salvaged.
