GALA DAY AT KAHUTARA. RESULTS OF CHILDRETN’S COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The exhibits at the Gala Day held at Kahutara were judged by Mrs A. C. Pearce, who complimented the children on their high standard of work. Mr A. Johnston, Greytown, judged the calves, Mr T. Scott, Martinborough, the lambs, and Mr Harland tne woodwork. The silk art work is deserving of special mention, it. being of a very high standard. Great credit is due to Mrs McKenna, who has devoted an afternoon a week for the last 4 years to teaching the children this work, the result of which must be very gratifying to her. The relay for the McKay Cup and medals was won by the Kahutara School. The team was Noel Smith (captain), Trevor Smith, Eunice Williams, Elsie Harvey. The clock golf was won by Walter Juno (men) and Catherine Bargh (ladies).
Nail driving: (Men)—Victor Bargh 1. (Ladies) —May Warrington 1. Stepping-the-chain, Trevor Smith 1. Raffles.—The winner of the dinner was Mrs A. E. Pearce; the pig, Mrs T. Matthews; wine, Mr H. True. The competition for the child who collected the most tickets resulted: — Noel Smith 1, Buster Juno 2, George Hood 3. * Cricket. An enjoyable game of cricket was played between Pihautea and Matarawa, the visitors being the winners. Pihautea scored 76 and Matarawa 97. Euchre Tourney and Dance. The Kahutara Social Club’s euchre tournament and dance drew a big attendance, the balloons, streamers and confetti adding to the gaiety of the dancing. The winners of the euchre were:-—Ladies: Mrs Riki, 1; Mrs Chisholm, 2. -Men: Mr J. Thompson, 1; Mr A. Feast, 2. Personal. Misses Z. and E. McKenzie, Carterton, who have been visiting Mrs Harvey, Kahutara, have returned home. Pairs Championship. Owing to the unfavourable weather conditions only one match was played over the weekend. In the pair championship, W. Karaitiana and W. Higgison beat W. Robinson and A. S. Kilsby.
FIRE BRIGADE. MONTHLY MEETING. Superintendent Tidswell presided at the monthly meeting of the Featherston Fire Brigade. Bluff Fire Brigade wrote asking for donations for the family of a deceased member. It was decided to forward a donation of 10s 6d. A vote of thanks was accorded to the vice-presidents and honorary members who had forwarded donations. It was decided to close down the euchre tournaments on Tuesday, December 13, until a date to be decided upon later. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to those members of the public who had patronised the euchre evenings and have by their attendance greatly helped the social funds. Rifle Club Competition.
