FEATHERSTON

RIVER BOARD MEETING. (“Times-A§e” Special.) At a meeting of the South Wairarapa River Board there were present Messrs R. McDougall (chairman), R. W. Matthews, R. A. Donald, A. H. Ashdown, A. Linton and T. A. Herrick. Mr R. A. Donald, the newly-elected member, was welcomed by the chair-’ man.

Feeling reference to the loss the Board had sustained by the death .of the late Mr Q. Donald was made by members. The chairman (Mr McDougall) said they had lost one of the most outstanding men in the district. The late Mr Donald had been a member for many years, and until recently was chairman. He had done all he could to forward the Board’s interests, besides devoting a great deal of his time and occupying prominent positions on other public bodies.

Mr R. W. Matthews endorsed the remarks of the chairman, and said they had not only lost a great friend but a wonderful worker for the Board.

Mr A. Linton spoke on the same lines and said he had worked on the Dairy Industry Research Committee with Mr Donald, and he had done wonderful work. Mr Donald’s advice was sought and valued by all. Mr Ashdown said they had all lost a great friend. A motion of sympathy with Mrs Donald and the family and relatives was carried in silence. A letter was received from the Lands and Survey Department asking the Board to agree to a reduction of rent for Mr A. Warren on account of the flooding of a part of Mr Warren’s land. The Board strongly objected to any reduction as it was felt Mr Warren had not done all he could to prevent some of the flooding. Accounts totalling £4l 19s 2d were passed for payment.
