BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS GROUP JUDGING RESULTS. YESTERDAY’S SHOW AT EKETAHUNA. (“Times-Age” Special.) The group judging of calves in the Eketahuna group of the Tararua Boys" and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs Association was held in the Eketahuna Domain yesterday. Between 150 and 200 adults attended besides a very large number of school children. The brilliant sunshine which prevailed throughout the day played its part in making the event a great success. Forty-two calves and six yearlings were presented for competition. The show was officially opened by Mr W. Simpson, mayor of Eketahuna. who, in a brief speech stressed the importance of primary products, the necessity for increased production, together with the desirability of small holdings for the farmer to be independent of the necessity for extra labour. The calves were judged by Mr F. Bryant, Ruawhata. The awards were as follow:— Yearlings: Brian Goggin (Rongokokako) 1, Ursula Payne (Rongokokako) 2, Robert Payne (Rongokokako) 3. A competition conducted by the club resulted as follows: Mrs A. G. Parker, Hukanui, 1, Mr Murray Morris, Rongokokako 2. The records of the first prize winner, Ursula Payne, were of outstanding quality and created much interest among the visitors. After judging all entries, Mr Bryant gave a valuable demonstration of dairy points using a cow, the property of MiFalconer of Kaiparoro. He also gave competitors some useful advice on rearing their calves. Mr W. J. Henderson, secretary of the Tararua Association, thanked all those whose co-operation had contributed to the success of the show. Mr F. C. Brockett, Instructor in Agriculture, organiser of the movement, complimented the district on the interest shown by children and adults, as evidenced by the very large gathering.
