GREYTOWN

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very happy time was spent by those who attended the . Presbyterian Garden Party yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mr and Mrs Alex. Johnson, Main Street, Greytown. Visitors were present from all over the Wairarapa and Wellington friends were also in attendance. The garden looked gay and the lawns were very green after the recent rain. The stalls were well laden and did good -business. The baby show drew a large entry. The judge was Mrs Archie Clark, of Featherston. The prize for best baby boy went to lan Hodge and for the best baby girl to Elizabeth (Beth) Garrity. The croquet competition was won by Mrs A. Nichols, and the golf putting winner was Miss M. Webster. The cushion competition went to Mrs W. Hodge and Mrs A. W. Horton won the Christmas cake. The lucky winners for Christmas lamb were Mrs Maddison (half) and Mrs Everett and Mrs G. Workman (a quarter each). Mrs H. Stunell secured the special 251 b. of flour. The afternoon tea was a special feature of the party. Mr Karl P. Lilly expressed his thanks to Mr and Mrs Johnson for the use of their grounds and especially thanked the many willing helpers. The total takings were over £2O. During the afternoon the school harmonica band supplied a programme of music. Personal Items. Mr E. Larkin, of Raetihi, who attended the annual Masonic communication at Christchurch last week is at present visiting Greytown. Mr A. Hobson, who was the driver of the defence motor waggon in the accident at the Hihitahiti Bridge was discharged from the Taihape Hospital on Sunday, and is now on sick leave at his home, Main Street, Greytown. Bowling Competitions. Playing for the Dennes Medal, Brunton succeeded in holding the trophy against Connolly, but C. Brown scored a win over him after a close game. In the handicap singles, Carter lost to Bunny, and Wallace beat Row.
