STRAINED RELATIONS
UNITED STATES & GERMANY DISPUTE OVER AUSTRIAN OBLIGATIONS. NAZI REPLY DESCRIBED AS UNSATISFACTORY. 1 By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. WASHINGTON, November 22.; The strained relations between America and Germany reached a still more critical stage today when Mr Cordell Hull, Secretary of State, announced that he had received an unsatisfactory reply to demands that the Nazi Government assume Austrian monetary obligations to the United States. Many observers feel that the reopening of the Austrian question at this time will not enhance the chances of an early resumption of normal diplomatic relations which are already temporarily abrogated because of American displeasure at .the Nazis’ treatment of Jews and Catholics.
