GOLF SEASON

MASTERTON CLUB’S OFFICIAL CLOSING GATHERING ON THE LIN’KS THIS AFTERNOON. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The Masterton Golf Club officially closed its season this afternoon, in the presence of a large gathering of golfers and their friends. A mixed foursome was played, and afternoon tea was served. Declaring the season closed, the president, Mr G. W. Sellar, said the club had had a very successful year, and the standard of play had been well maintained. The greens and fairways had been in particularly good order this year, due, to a great extent, to the committee’s foresight in having the fairways mole and tile drained. This work had proved very satisfactory, and was done under the supervision of Mr F. Court, of Waihakeke. The club had played inter-club matches with Hutt, Ro'totawai, Carterton and Manawatu, and all these contests had proved very enjoyable and were keenly looked forward to by the members of'the club. Although the season was officially closed that day, Mr Sellar pointed out to members that the links would be available for play during the whole of the summer months, and it was a wellknown fact that the Masterton links were ideal under summer conditions. It was proposed, during the summer, to allow the members of nearby clubs to become summer members of the Masterton club, and this no doubt would be appreciated by local clubs. Mr Sellar said he had much pleasure in presenting the trophies won during the past season. ■ He was particularly pleased that the president’s trophy had been won by a young player of the club.
