SCHOOL CRAFTS
DISPLAY AT MASTERTON CENTRAL. WORK GF EXCELLENT .STANDARD Judging by 'he display of school work gracing the Assembly Hall of the Master ton Central School rhis afternoon, the children of today have a splendid knowledge of how to make many attractive articles for home and other use. The range of articles on display, made by the pupils of this school, is ?. most comprehensive one, and those who inspected the exhibition during the afternoon were agreeably surprised at the excellent craftsmanship to be seen on all sides. Even the youngsters of the primer classes have a good idea of how to make useful little articles for mother out of old hats and water bottles, and at the same time to provide themselves with quaint toys. <■ Prominent among a great mass of material is the pewter and basket work of some of the older children. Here are to be seen book ends, ornamental boxes and fire screens that are good enough for any home. Dresses and other sewing work of wide variety, beautiful quilted cushions, parchment work, dinner wagons, stools, bookcases, rag mats, lino cuts, papier mache work, designs and drawings in pencil, ink, crayon and water colour and designs from pressed petals, among many other things, catch the eye and leave a most favourable impression. The written work Jikewise sets a high standard and the project work in picture and story, forms a novel means of recording the facts about the subject dealt with by the compiler. The retardate class exhibits include many attractive articles. Altogether the display is most creditable to those responsible. The School Bugle Bird played f elections during the afternoon and afternoon tea was provided by lady members of the Parents’ Association.
