PONGAROA

GOLF CLUB SEASON CLOSED PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES ("Times-Age” Special) The Pongaroa. Golf Club held its official closing day during the weekend in good weather. The attendance was comparatively small owing to shearing operations. A short medal round was played, the winners being: Ladies, Mrs J. Riddell; men, -Mr J. McLaren.

Putting and approaching competitions resulted as follows:—Putting: Ladies, Miss P. Berry; men, P. A. Donovan (after a play off with S. F. Herbert). Approaching: Ladies, Miss S. W Emson; men, Mr A. M. Theed.

Following afternoon tea, the presentation of trophies won during the season took place. .

The club captain, Mr P. A. Donovan, outlined the season’s activities, and made a special reference to the generous treatment received by the club from the owner of the course, Mr R. R. Burling, whom the club were proud to have as patron, and to the station manager, Mr F. A. Meech, for the considerate and helpful manner in which the course was grazed. Mr Donovan also thanked the executive, and particularly the secretary, Mr F. H. Mayman, for their services to the club, and the ladies for'having provided afternoon tea throughout the season.

The president (Mr A. M. Theed), also spoke briefly and Mrs Theed, presented the trophies to the winners as follows: —Ladies’ competitions: championship, Miss P. Berry; runner-up, Miss V. Jones; ladies’ handicap cup, Mrs R. C. Scott; eclectic, Mrs R. C. Scott; net aggregate, Mrs R. C. Scott; flag competition, Mrs R. C. Scott; Ist and 2nd medals, Miss D. Kent; 3rd and 4th medals, Mrs Scott; sth and 6th medals, Mrs Emson; qualifying medal, Miss Jones; consolation medal, Mrs Emson. Men’s competitions: championship, A. M. Theed, runner-up, F. R. Cowper; Smith and Donovan handicap cup, R. C. Scott; Burling handicap cup, S. W. Emson; Akitio mugs (4 ball), F. R. Cowper and G. G. Jones; eclectic, A. M. Theed; captain’s trophy (for net aggregate), C. P. Reid; Ist and 2nd medals, C. P. Reid; 3rd and 4th medals, R. C. Satherly; sth and 6th medals, C. P. Reid; Canadian foursome, Campbell and Donovan; tournament bogey, B. Robertson; tournament medal, F. R. Cowper; tournament stableford, R. C. Scott. Personal. Mr and Mrs A. Gray and family of Eketahuna, were weekend visitors to Mr and Mrs R. C. Satherly. Mrs W. V. Graham and Mr V. Graham, Waterfalls, are visiting Wellington. Mr E. Harman, Lower Hutt, is the guest of Mr and Mrs R. J. Harman, snr, Tiraumea. Mrs J. Souter, has returned to her home, after having been an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital. Mr and Mrs F. R. Cowper visited Dannevirke during the weekend, and played in the Dannevirke Golf Club’s closing day competitions. Mrs G. T. Smith, and her two small children, left yesterday, on a visit to Mrs R. Gray, Te Rahunga, Hawke’s Bay. Mr and Mrs H. C. Sounness have returned from a short visit to Palmerston North.
