RIFLE SHOOTING. BALFOUR CHALLENGE CUP. (“Times-Age” Special.) The first stage of the Balfour Challenge Cup was taken last Saturday on the Papawai range, seven shots were fired at 300 yards. H. R. Feast and H. W. Feast both registered 34 points and G. Te Whaiti 32. At 500 yards H. R. Feast added 48 to his score making his total of 82 out of possible 85. G. Te Whaiti with 49, the last an inner, was second with 81. T. Orr also scored a 48. Weather conditions were good. The first seven shots at 500 yards counted for the Balfour Cup. The scores were as follow: —
Next Saturday ten shots at the 600 yards ranges for the Balfour and Te Whaiti cups will be fired. Tennis Season Opened.
There was a big gathering of young tennis players at the Greytown Methodist courts on Saturday when the official opening was held.. The courts are in first class order this year. Swimming. The Municipal swimming baths were well patronised on Saturday and Sunday when they were opened for the first time. Cherry Picking. Cherry picking commenced in Greytown this morning.
