LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN

K SQUADRON’S ANNUAL SOCIAL. GREAT NEED FOR UNITY. The annual social of K Squadron, Legion of Frontiersmen, was held in the Savage Club Rooms, Masterton, on Saturday night. There was a large attendance, including members of the N Squadron, Palmerston North. Captain A. Av. Don, Officer Commanding K Squadron, in extending a welcome to the guests, said he welcomed them chiefly as representatives of units or associations who, like the Legion, had patriotism to the Empire at heart and in particular, service to the community with which they were associated. Never was there a greater need for unity and service on the part of everyone' It had been said frequently that the young man of -today was selfish and pleasure-seeking. “I would like the young men to take up that challenge and prove that this is not so,” he said. “I believe that every able-bodied young man should take advantage now of the training offered by the Government and arranged by the military authorities, instead of waiting for a time of emergency. In this way. they could prove that they are willing to assume a share in the responsibility of their country’s preparedness, and find part of their pleasure in' doing so. After all,” said Captain Don, “they gain much by service as they are given a training that instils discipline and engenders a sense of comradeship which would be of the greatest value to them in ordinary, life.”

The toast list was as follow: —The King; “The 9000,” proposed by Sergeant Price; “South African Veterans,” proposed by Sergeant Wallis and replied to by Major Fletcher; “R.5.A..” proposed by Q.M.S. Taylor, replied to by Mr Whyborn; “Army, Navy and Air Force,” proposed by Lieut. Daldy, replied to by Captain Honary; “Local Bodies,” proposed by Trooper Jaine, replied to by Councillor Ninnes,
