CANADIAN FORESTS

MANY ATTRACTIVE FEATURES.

APPRECIATION ENCOURAGED.

OTTAWA, Canada

Seldom excelled for sheer beauty and richness of colour, the forests of Canada attract many visitors at this season of the year. Extravagantly splashed with all the striking hues brought on by the autumnal frosts, the woods are a myriad of brightly coloured trees. Varying from the scarlet of the maple leaves to the deep green of the fir trees, they present a scene of unusual beauty. To encourage a deeper appreciation of the Canadian forests in the autumn among city-dwell-ers as well as those of the rural sections, the Canadian Government Travel Bureau in conjunction with the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Canadian National Railways conducts an annual contest to determine the most beautifully coloured maple leaf and also the largest maple leaf. In last year’s contest, the most beautiful entry came from the Province of Ontario while British Columbia has carried the honours for the largest leaf during the six years that the competition has been in existence. The winning leaf last year in the size contest was 21 by 22 inches with a surface area of 284.3 square inches.
