LABOUR PARTY WINS SEAT IN CLOSE FIGHT.

By Telegraph-—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, November 8.

The result of the Dartford (Kent) by-election was declared today as follows: Mrs Adamson (Labour), 46,514 votes; Mr Mitchell (Conservative), 42,276 votes, a Labour gain. Sixtyeight per cent of the electorate voted. Mrs Adamson said: “I won because the electors disapprove of the Government’s foreign policy and are ashamed of Mr Chamberlain’s . betrayal of Czechoslovakia and democracy.” Mrs Adamson is the wife of the Labour member of the House of Commons, Mr William Adamson. They are the only husband and wife in the House.
