FAT LAMB PRICES
NEW SEASON’S SCHEDULE
FIXED
VALUE OF BY-PRODUCTS DROPS
Meat export firms are now offering a schedule price of Bid a lb for fat lambs. For the first drafts for the Home Christmas trade 9d a lb was given. It is not anticipated that the ruling price will appreciate, and it is more than likely that the main drafts will bring round about 7id. While the schedule price is down on last year, breeders agreed that B|d a lb is a payable proposition. The value of the actual carcase has not dropped, but the price of tallow, pelt and hide is down, and is likely to remain so. One chain at Waingawa Works was fully manned throughout’ yesterday killing drafts of fat lambs as well as those entered in the export lamb competition. It was interesting- to note that the method of killing the lambs in force in recent years, known as sticking, has been abolished and a return made to the old method of cutting the throats of the sheep. While sticking was fast and efficient it is understood that the Society for. Prevention of Cruelty to Animals disapproved of the system.
