COUNTY AFFAIRS
MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL. BUSINESS BEFORE FINANCE COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Finance Committee of the 'Masterton County Council was held this morning, Councillor H. H. Mawley presiding. There were also present: Councillors R. E. G. Lee, W. I. Armstrong, G. Moore, J. W. Colquhoun, P. R. Welch and J. Donald. The treasurer reported a debit in the County Fund account of £2657 5s 9d. Receipts since the last meeting totalled £2982 Is 2d. Main Highways Board and other subsidies outstanding totalled £1684 7s Id. Accounts amounting to £4617 8s 9d were recommended for payment. Mr J. C. D. Mackley, County Clerk, reported that the new 24 inch crusher, which was imported from England had arrived at the depot and arrangements were being made to instal same in place of the 18 inch machine. Messrs Richardson, McCabe and Co., Ltd., were being instructed to dispose of the 18 inch machine on a ten per cent commission basis.
Mr Mackley also reported that arrangements had been completed to meet the settlers interested in the Taueru Road deviation at Taueru tomorrow at 9 a.m. Mr Mackley reported on an interview with the District Engineer, Public Works Department, concerning maintenance and other matters in connection with the reconstruction and sealing of the Bennett’s Hill to Taueru section of the Master-ton-Castlepoint Main Highway. The council authorised Mr Mackley to attend the annual conference of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks (of which he is secretary), to be held at Palmerston North on November 17. It was decided that the next meeting of the council should be held on Tuesday. December 6 instead of December 13.
