SOCIAL SECURITY
SOME MINISTERIAL & OTHER CHANGES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. WELLINGTON, This Day. The appointment oj a Minister of Social Security will probably involve some 'consequential adjustments in the allocation of ministerial responsibilities. After April 1 the Ministry of Pensions, at present administered by Mr Parry, will disappear, and the Minister of Labour, Mr Armstrong, will be absolved from responsibility for the administration of the Employment Promotion Fund, which is to be abolished as from the beginning of April. Any money in the fund at that time will be transferred to the Social Security Fund. If a Parliamentary Undersecretary is appointed to assist with the administration of the social security scheme, the most likely candidates for appointment would appear to be Dr McMillan (Dunedin West), and Mr Nordmeyer (Oamaru). Of the Government members outside Cabinet, they have taken the most prominent part in the formulating of the Government’s scheme. M 4 Nordmeyer was chairman of the special Parliamentary Committee which examined the Government’s proposals during the recess before the last session of Parliament; and Dr McMillan was chairman of an investigating committee which carried out much preliminary work*on the health aspect of social security before the proposals were actually announced.
