LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY

PRODUCING “LOVERS’ LEAP” The recently formed Mastertdn Little Theatre Society will make its initial bow to the public of Masterton in the Opera House on November 16 and 17, when it will present Philip Johnson’s extremely bright comedy, “Lover’s Leap." As this play has been most enthusiastically received wherever produced, it is a happy choice for the Society’s first venture. Under the direction of Mrs E. J. Rich, and supervised by Mr F. E. McCallum, rehearsals are proceeding steadily, and a first-class production is assured. During the past year Masterton has had an influx of histrionic talent, and advantage has been taken of this fact to present a cast completely new to local audiences, and including Peggy Mirams, Grace Hopkins, Frederic McCallum, John Harcourt and John Kemnitz. For over four years Mr McCallum produced for the Auckland Little Theatre Society, and his ability as a producer should be of great value. The stage management will be in the capable hands of Mr T. C. Wynne, who for six years was stage manager to the Dunedin Repertory Society. The plot of “Lovers’ Leap” centres on two sisters, one of whom, through a fancied “hoodoo” on the matrimonial ventures of the female members of her . family, is hesitant about marrying Cedric Norreys the sincere but unsophisticated young man with whom she is in love, and toys with the idea of merely “living with him.” At the critical weekend when she has arrived at her sister’s country home to grapple with this problem, her sister’s husband, who had deserted his temperamental wife seven years previously, unexpectedly arrives, and from then on things happen, fast and furiously, leading up to a thrilling and quite unexpected climax. The box plan opens to the public at Nimmo’s on Wednesday, November 9.
