MARTINBOROUGH CATTLE FAIR. PRICES FIRM. Messrs Dalgety and Co, report as follows: —We held opr spring cattle fair yesterday when a full yarding was offered to a representative gathering from local and outside districts. The cattle came forward in good order and all classes sold freely under the hammer. Doubtless owing to the recent' rains grown bullocks were in special demand In • our entry we offered, a very nice line of well bred and well grown 2-yr P.A. steers in good, condition on account, of Mr E. D. Martin, these being sold at £8 16s. Fat cattle were firm at recent rates. Quotations are as follow: —Fat cows, £7 17s 6d; 4-yr bullocks, £lO ss; 2-yr P.A. steers, £8 16s; yearling P.A. steers, £4 7s 6d, £4 10s to £4 16s; small yearling P.A. steers, £3 19s; 2yr P.A. heifers, £6 ss; yearling P.A. heifers, £4‘3s; store cows ex-dairy, £3 2s 6d.
LOAN & MERCANTILE CO. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows:—A full yarding of cattle was submitted to a good attendance of buyers. The change in the weather conditions had a very marked effect on .the demand, especially for grown bullocks and the competition throughout was keen. The following is the range of prices:—3-yr. steers, £9 ss; 2-yr. steers, £6 10s to £8; yearling steers, £5 10s to £4 17s; small steers, £4 to £4 4s; empty cows, £4 12s to £3 3s; springing dairy heifers, £5; yearling dairy heifers, £4 4s.
EKETAHUNA SALE. SLIGHT ADVANCE IN PRICES. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their Eketahuna sale held yesterday as follows:—A special entry of all classes of cattle came forward and met a good market from a large attendance of buyers. Competition throughout was keen, and prices were if anything slightly in advance of those of late sales. A total clearance was effected, and the following list of principal sales will indicate values: —2-yr. Hereford steers, £7 12s; store conditioned med. 2-yr. Hereford steers, £6 12s; good P.A. yearling steers, £5; medium yearling Hereford steers, £4 2s; yearling P.A. heifers. £3 15s; small Hereford yearling steers, £3 5s to £3 12s; coloured bullocks, £7 12s.
LOAN & MERCANTILE CO. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—We offered a number of pens of store and dairy cattle to a poor attendance yesterday. Springing cows and heifers were neglected but the pens of yearling Jersey heifers attracted good competition and made values comparable with best recent quotations. Messrs Cooper Bros., specially advertised entry of 16 yearling Jersey heifers made a most attractive pen but the figure offered £5 Is was below the vendor’s idea of value. The yarding of station cattle was of mediocre quality and taking this into consideration prices were quite satisfactory. We quote:— Springing cows, guaranteed medium quality, £6 15s; yearling heifers, Jersey, best. £5 4s; medium, £4 Is, £4; small broken colours, £2 11s; fat cows, £6; small 2-yr. steers. £5 10s; small yearling steers, £4 7s 6d to £4 10s; yearling P.A. heifers, small, £2 19s; 5-yr. P.A. bull, £l3 10s; small 2-yr. bull, £8 10s. Pigs: Weaners, medium, 20s; slips, 19s.
