The distinction of being an international bowler and the founder of the Francis Drake Fellowship, which has a membership of 12,000, is possessed by the Rev E. H. Hobday, of England, a well-known preacher and the author of “Calvary Clover,” who is supplying the pulpit of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, Christchurch, for the next three months. The ideals of the fellowship are brotherhood and benevolence, and since its establishment in London in 1929 it has disbursed more than £4OOO for the benefit of widows and orphans of bowlers. In 1934 Mr Hobday reached the semi-final in the Lonsdale Gold Cup—the most coveted of all English bowling honours.
