MARTINBOROUGH

CROQUET SEASON OPENED.

("Times-Age” Special.)

' The Croquet Club officially opened the season on Tuesday afternoon, there being a good attendance of members and friends.

Mrs McAlpine (president) extended a hearty welcome to those present, and expressed the hope that they would spend a happy afternoon on the lawns. She said that she trusted members would have a successful season. Mrs Skill (Mayoress) was then called upon to play the first ball which she did amid applause. The winners of the various competitions were as follow: —Hurry scurry:— Senior: Mesdames Skill and Todd; junior, Mesdames Cuthbert and Gray. French: Mrs Knell. Croquet in the rain: Mrs Caseley. Ladder: Mrs Jenkins. . Personals. Mrs H. Ellis, of Levin, is the guest of Mrs C. Skill. Mrs J. McNally is visiting her mother, Mrs McKay, of Naples Street.
