MAURICEVILLE

WOMEN’S DIVISION BIHTHDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Tuesday the members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union celebrated their 13th birthday in the form of a dance, members and friends being present from all parts of the district. The supper tables and hall were decorated with an abundance of spring flowers of every colour. The stage looked very pretty, almost like a spring garden, with big bowls of flowers and feathery ferns. Suspended from green streamers hung the silver letters W.D.F.U. In the centre of’the hall stood a small table decorated with the Union Jack on which the beautiful birthday cake with 13 candles took pride of place. The cake was made by Mrs H. G. Trass. The music was supplied by Mr J. Barnes’s Orchestra. Mr I. Larson capably carried out the duties of M.C. Novelty dances were won by Mi- and Mrs J. Baine and Mr F. Morrell. At the supper interval Miss G. Heckler (president) called on Mrs James (president of the Rangitumau branch) ,to light the candles, and Mrs R. Wilkin (vice-president) to blow them out. Mrs E. Dagg then cut the cake. Miss E. Dagg presented Miss G. Heckler with a beautiful bouquet. ■ Miss Heckler thanked all who had worked to make the function such a success. Supper was then served and dancing continued till a late hour. Tennis Dance. Labour Day will be celebrated in Mauriceville with a dance by the Tennis Club, this being one of the most popular functions in the district. The music will be supplied by Frank Pool’s Orchestra. The floor will be in splendid order and supper will be provided. Measles Epidemic. Measles are prevalent throughout the district, and many adults ate victims.
